Today, President Carol Kellermann issued this statement on behalf of the Citizens Budget Commission regarding the property tax lawsuit filed today:

"The lawsuit filed today is an important and positive step to promote reform of the seriously flawed New York City property tax. The city’s largest tax revenue, expected to bring in more than $24 billion or nearly half of all tax revenue this year, should be fair and transparent. For more than three decades, despite repeated recommendations from the Citizens Budget Commission and other responsible and respected groups, the City and State legislatures have failed to take meaningful action to rectify egregious inequities and economic inefficiencies in the design and administration of an opaque property tax. A comprehensive judicial review based on objective evidence presented in a public forum can be a catalyst for constructive change."
