NYC Deputy Mayor Caswell Holloway announced the Bloomberg administration’s plans to settle expired contracts with municipal labor unions. In addition, Mr. Holloway revealed a plan to lower the City’s health insurance costs by working with the Municipal Labor Committee to redesign the city’s health insurance plans and adopt "wellness initiatives" for employees."

Panel Discussion: Assessing NYC's Competitiveness as a Home for Human Capital

The Association for a Better New York (ABNY) and the Citizens Budget Commission (CBC) co-hosted a breakfast and panel discussion (watch video here) where CBC unveiled the findings of a new assessment of New York City’s competitiveness in attracting the talent needed for future economic growth. A panel was convened to react to the findings, and included the following individuals:

Daniel Brodsky – Managing Director of The Brodsky Organization and Chairman of the Metropolitan Museum of Art
Vishaan Chakrabarti (moderator) – Director of Columbia University’s Center for Urban Real Estate; Partner at SHoP architects; and, Chair of CBC’s Competitiveness Committee
Kyle Kimball – Executive Vice President and the Executive Director of the New York City Economic Development Corporation
David Skorton – President of Cornell University

New York State Education Commissioner Dr. John B. King, Jr. discussed reforms such as the unified core curriculum and teacher evaluations as part of a larger effort to improve education outcomes throughout the state. You can watch video of the event here.
