In this letter, CBC calls on the Governor to veto 21 bills that would unnecessarily sweeten pension benefits for state and local government employees in New York. The bills were passed by the Legislature and are awaiting the Governor’s signature. The CBC also calls on the Governor to create an independent commission to examine policies for pension reform, noting that pension costs for the State nearly quadrupled from $274 million in fiscal year 2002 to $1.1 billion in fiscal year 2006.
