The CBC Research
Program
CBC's core research
program continues to focus on issues affecting the efficient use of
City and State resources, both financial and human, the overall financial
condition of the two governments and quality of life issues that affect
the long-term competitiveness of New York.
The research
program is grounded in three fundamental beliefs:
- Serving the
interests of the citizenry at large, rather than narrow special
interests, should be the beacon that guides public officials as
well as the standard for evaluating their performance;
- It is
wrong to waste precious public resources, whether they are financial
or human;
- It is
important to focus on the well-being of future New Yorkers, undoubtedly
the most underrepresented interest of all in City and State government.
CBC's research is conducted by CBC staff members and consultants with the active involvement and oversight of committees of the Board of Trustees. Each committee is responsible for guiding the research and approving the reports and recommendations issued within its jurisdiction. There are two standing committees: the Budget Policy Committee, and the Competitiveness Committee. The CBC does pursue projects that do not fall under the domain of these standing committees, so ad hoc committees are created and dissolved as the need arises. Currently, there are two ad hoc committees: the Committee on Public-Private Partnerships, and the Transportation Committee. The activities of each of the committees are described below.
