The Committee’s work will build on previous CBC work in the Competitiveness and Budget Policy Committees. However, our concern with the finances of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and other transportation agencies has grown sufficiently to warrant a separate committee. This Committee will oversee a multi-year project on the implementation of the MTA’s capital program funded in part by a grant from the J.M. Kaplan Foundation this spring, and will also develop CBC’s positions on congestion pricing proposals due from public officials in early 2008; on the MTA’s ongoing fiscal problems, including its fare policy; and the scale and content of its next five-year capital program.
